You may have recently seen a rise in companies promoting their products' Secured By Design Accreditation. Naturally, this means that they are generally more secure, but what does it actually mean?
The C500 KeySafe is our flagship Police Approved product. This means that it has been tested to rigorous standards to ensure its security benefits to you, the user.
The C500 Key Safe is approved to LPS 1175 : Level 1
This standard is the Specification for testing and classifying the burglary resistance of building components, strong-points and security enclosures. Our accreditation means that the KeySafe has been determined to be as secure as a domestic front door when installed according to our recommendations;
- Only use the fixings supplied - Wall plugs are not needed! The self tapping screws provided are specialist fixings that screw directly into brick.
- Install into brick, not mortar
- Leave a gap of at least 6" (15cm) from the edge of the wall.
It is important to note that these criteria must be fulfilled in order to maintain Police accreditation, and more importantly, your security.
In order to attain Police and SBD approval, our product was tested by the Loss Prevention Certification Board (LPCB). The LPCB is the leading testing organisation for fire and security products. Consisting of representatives from the Association of Chief Police Officers, the Home Office and leading insurance companies, this independant organisation conducts testing and provides certification for exceptional products.
The LPCB certified C500 was then submitted to Secured By Design. This organisation is made up of crime prevention officers - Police officers who specialise in minimising the risk of security breaches. These expert officers then determine whether or not to champion the certificated product. The C500 was recieved in extremely high regard by SBD, who allowed us to use the phrase 'Police Approved' to promote our product, as well as the Secured By Design branding.
"Now that the C500 KeySafe has achieved LPS & SBD accreditation this should be the only key safe that is specified" - Peter Bennett, Thames Valley Police
Since the LPS 1175 standard was devised in part by the Association of British Insurers, the KeySafe generally has no negative effect on your home contents insurance. A number of leading insurance companies have provided their assurance that "Where only a C500 is fitted, adhering to the manufacturer's instructions and using the correct bolts (as supplied), no claim for thefts from a client's home would be comprimised or prejudiced" including;
AVIVA and FORTIS in partnership with Age UK
"If you must leave a key outside, use a police approved key safe and only give the code to people you trust". - Selwyn Fernandes, Managing Director of LV Home Insurance
